DRUMWIT TIPS
Typical food in Copenhagen
Smørrebrød is a traditional Danish dish consisting of a slice of rye bread (usually dark rye bread) topped with various ingredients. It is one of Denmark's most iconic dishes and is mainly enjoyed as a lunch. The word “smørrebrød” literally means “buttered bread”, but the tradition has evolved to include a variety of toppings. Great value for money, we recommend trying them at Domhusets Smørrebrød (Kattesundet 18), very close to the Town Hall Square.
Metro
How to get from the airport to the centre of Copenhagen?
From the airport, take the M2 underground towards Vanløse St. to the stop Kongens Nytorv. From there, take the M4 underground towards København Syd St. to the stop Rådhuspladsen.
The ticket you need to buy to go to the centre is a three-zone single ticket, which is valid for one and a half hours.
Tickets and fares:
Tickets can be bought at metro stations from ticket machines. You can also use rechargeable transport cards such as ‘Rejsekort’.
The fare system is zone-based, so the cost of the ticket depends on how many zones you travel in. There are adult, child and concessionary fares.
Tivoli Gardens
It is one of the oldest amusement parks in the world and one of the main tourist attractions in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was opened in 1843 and has been an iconic destination for locals and tourists alike for over a century. In addition to being an amusement park, it is also a beautiful garden and a venue for shows, concerts and cultural events. In some off-peak periods, the park may close temporarily for maintenance. It is advisable to check the official Tivoli website for updated opening times before planning your visit.
Christianshavn
It is made up of several man-made islands and is full of interesting streets and places to visit. This is Christianshavn, one of Copenhagen's trendiest neighbourhoods. It started out as a merchants' village, but soon became part of the city. It is a middle-class residential area with a cool nautical atmosphere.
Christiania
Christiania is a self-organised, alternative community located in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1971, it was established on an area of abandoned military land and has since become known for its liberal lifestyle and rejection of traditional norms. It is famous for its focus on self-sufficiency, art, alternative culture and anarchist politics. Despite being in the middle of a modern city, Christiania has a unique, bohemian atmosphere. Although it has faced conflicts with the government, it remains an emblematic place of freedom and creativity in Copenhagen.
